The First South China Sea Situation Seminar of 2019 Was Held at Peking University

On Jan 5, 2019, the first South China Sea Situation Seminar of 2019 was held at Peking University Overseas Exchange Center. The seminar focused on the status and trends of the militarization in the South China Sea of the United States, the prospects of COC (Code of Conduct for the South China Sea) consultations and the formation of the order of the South China Sea, the development trend of the South China Sea policy and related industries of Southeast Asian nations. The changes in the strategic order of the South China Sea and its impact on China’s maritime and national security, as well as the status quo and prospects of the establishment of the South China Sea international maritime legal order were discussed at the seminar.

The seminar was hosted by the Institute of Ocean Research. Nearly 30 experts and scholars from related organizations attended. As a cross-disciplinary research platform, Peking University Institute of Ocean Research is committed to create an academic community for ocean research. It is hoped that this seminar will be a good start for promoting the South China Sea Research.
